West Norfolk goalkeepers taste success at tournament
A group of talented shot-stoppers from West Norfolk tested their skills and reactions at a goalkeeper tournament in Nottingham.
Seventeen youngsters from the Downham-based Gkacademy made the trip with several tasting success between the posts.
The event saw more than 100 shot-stoppers, including many academy goalkeepers, take part and the West Norfolk contingent enjoyed a very successful day.
Many of the participants held their own with many just missing out on progressing into knockouts by single point or goals scored.
But the Gkacademy did enjoy success with William Layn (Downham Town) reaching the under-7/8 knockouts stage while Jack Allen (March Town Athletic) was a semi-finalist in the under-9 section.
Hayden Page (Snettisham Maroons) was runner-up in the under-10s and India Blandford (Holly Meadows) was third in the under-10s.
Thanks to estate agents Morris Armitage and boiler manufacturers Viessmann who provided sponsorship to kit the goalkeepers out.
The academy, who offer goalkeeper training to all ages and ability around the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire area, are hosting their own tournament at Downham on July 29.
