Heacham continue winning start to Anglian Combination League season




Heacham have taken to senior football like a duck to water as they continued their winning start to the new campaign.

The Anglian Combination Division One side extended their 100 per cent record by defeating Thetford Rovers 5-0 on home soil.

Gale force winds was the main factor of the first half as Heacham found it difficult to play much football in the the Thetford half.

A frustrating first period saw the teams go into the break goalless.

A change of tactics and with the wind behind them, Heacham peppered the Thetford goal for long periods of the second half to net five goals.

John Flanagan (2) and Nathan Davies once again scored for the home side making their tallies for the season six and four respectively.

Substitute Adam Reeve came on and got himself a brace with two well-taken goals to round off another impressive display.

On Saturday, Heacham find themselves at home again when they entertain Stalham Town.

Elsewhere, it was a bad day at the office for Swaffham Town Reserves away to Wells Town.

Despite goals from Jake Smith (2) and Blake Stangroome, the team crashed to an 11-3 reverse.

The howling winds and lashing rain had a huge effect on the Pedlars.

On Saturday, the team will be looking to bounce back as they travel to Celt Rangers in the first round on the Norfolk County Junior Cup.

Swaffham A team’s fixture was a casualty of the weather, with Southrepps’ ground suffering with standing water and wind damage.

Tomorrow, Colkirk are the visitors to Shoemakers Lane.

Swaffham Town Veterans started their League campaign last Sunday with a 4-1 home defeat to Reffley, Ray Harrison scoring the Pedlars’ goal.

Division Three West unfortunately has been truncated to only four teams due to withdrawals at late notice. The One Broker League are reviewing the constitution in an effort to bolster the number of fixtures.

Elsewhere this weekend a number of West Norfolk sides will be in Thurlow Nunn League action.

In the Premier Division, Swaffham Town travel to Godmanchester Rovers.

In First Division North, Fakenham Town travel to Cornard United while Downham Town welcome Sheringham Town to the Memorial Field.

King’s Lynn Town Under-21s travel to Ipswich Wanderers.

On Wednesday night, Joe Simpson’s side came from 3-2 down at half-time to beat Wisbech St Mary 7-3. Lynn goals came from Joe Taylor (3), Flo Tsagium, Ryan Thomas and Enoch Opayinka (2).
