Jamie claims fifth win in as many races

The unassailable Jamie Standen claimed his five win in as many rides when there was a very familiar look to the result of the men's old school class in Lynn Cycling Club's latest Wednesday time trial.

Standen defied the nagging northerly wind on the Tottenhill course to romp home 24.03 with the top four being a carbon-copy of last week, while the three podium places being repeated for the third successive week.

The winner pulled almost two clear minutes from runner-up Simon Hardy who completed the 10-mile course in 25.51, but who hangs onto a slender lead in the championship as the only man yet to miss a race.

Trevor Marshall once again made third place his own with a time of 27.17 while Peter Barber secured his third consecutive fourth place a little further back in 33.45.

Neither Dave Bethell nor Tony Pym-Hember raced last week but they both returned and guess what?

They repeated their fifth and sixth places of a fortnight ago with 37.51 and 47.49 respectively.

In another repeat from the previous week, Daniel Bloy, of Team Velovelocity, was the fastest rider overall with another stunning performance of 20.30.

The top Lynn man in the Time Trial class was Jorge Vieira, whose ride of 21'35” gave him a sixth win of the season to maintain his comfortable championship advantage.

He turned the tables on the only racer to have beaten him this year.

Steve Neill, won by just two seconds on his single previous appearance, lost out himself this time by a mere 11 seconds.

The field was completed by James Senter who has spent the season alternating between racing solo and as a pair.

Crossing the line in 23.09, he bagged another ten points to stay third in the table.

The were some close battles amongst the ladies too.

Kay Burgess came out on top once again with another characteristically strong ride.

She recorded a 25.22, just ahead of visiting rider Sarah Senderski of Team Bottrill who followed her home in 25.47.

The ladies time trial championship is extremely close with Kay, Bethany Barnett (who didn't compete this week) and Emma Thompson all having raced three times and separated by just four points.

The latter took this week's runners-up berth thanks to her 28.22.

Only four seconds slower, despite riding in the traditional Old School bikes' class, was Nicky Brown, who took the win for the third time this season to move up to joint second overall.

Yet another close contest saw Sarah Comer, making her first appearance of 2018, secured second place with an impressive 31.22, nine seconds ahead of championship-leader Heather Rugg.

Ellie Marshall was fourth with 37.49, but as the only Junior taking part, she took her first ever maximum points haul in that category.
