Junior athletes battle it out in Sportshall League
The cream of junior athletes from across West Norfolk participated in the second round of the Norfolk Sportshall League at Alive Lynnsport.
Twenty West Norfolk Athletic Club juniors took part while Ryston Runners had 21 representatives, seven of whom were competing for the club for the first time and who all thoroughly enjoyed their day.
For West Norfolk AC, the under-11 boys’ team of Alfie Bone, Charlie Broad, James Cox and Kai Peggs were third on the day.
The best results of the day were Bone winning the vertical jump, while Broad was second in the two-lap and four-lap hurdles and the team were second across the line in the 4 x 1 relay.
The under-11 girls’ team of Sophie Garrett, Betty Schwarz, Danni Wathan and Erin Woodrow were sixth on the day. Schwarz and Garrett were fourth and fifth respectively in the chest push.
The under-13 boys’ team of Warren Dowe, Sam Nash and Thomas O’Neill could only finish fifth on the day due to missing out on points for not being able to compete in the relays.
Nash was second in the two-lap and O’Neill second in the speed bounce.
The under-13 girls’ team consisting of Yara Dias, Millie Eveson, Holly Lawrence, Jess Milnes, Sennen Tonkin and Eliza Upton Lawrence were second in the six-lap.
Tonkin was third in the vertical lump, the relay teams containing Lawrence, Milnes, Tonkin and Upton were second in the obstacle and 4 x 2 relay.
In the under-15 boys’ age group, where athletes competed individually, Christian Tansley enjoyed a brilliant Sportshall debut to finish third overall, coming second in the two-lap, four-lap and triple jump.
Amber Scott was also very consistent all afternoon for the under-15 girls to finish second overall.
Scott won the vertical jump and was second in the long jump while Bethany Dowe was also a commendable 14th on debut.
Ryston’s under-11 boys and girls finished fourth with the under-13 boys third and the girls second.
For the under-13 boys, David McQueen claimed three runner-up places and new PBs in standing triple jump (7m14) and vertical jump (54cm).
In the same age group, Ryan Wood was second in standing long jump and speed bounce, David McQueen and Oakley Took second in the eight-lap paarlauf, while the team finished third in both the obstacle relay and 4x1 lap relays.
For the under-11 boys, Seb Bennell was fourth in the two-lap, Dylan Whitehouse third in standing long jump and the relay team of Marcus Wood, Seb Bennell, Dylan Whitehouse and James McDermid were second in the obstacle and third in the 4x1 lap.
Kieran Bell claimed multiple PBs (9th overall) for the under-15 boys.
In the same age group, Liam Clare bagged PBs in speed bounce and in standing long jump of 2m27 (8th overall and wasn’t fazed by competing in a plaster cast due to a fractured thumb) and Jay Liczbinski was 12th overall.
For the under-13 girls, Demi Adegoke was first in standing long jump and second in the two-lap and standing triple jump.
Lucy Oakley was first in shot with PB of 10m21 and the relay teams were fourth in both 4x2 lap and obstacle.
Amelia Green was second in the chest push for the under-11 girls, Clarice Cavill claimed three PBs and was first in the speed bounce.
Charley Wheatley gained a PB in the two-lap before joining forces with Clarice Cavell to finish second in the six- lap paarlauf.
The relay team of Amelia Green, Charley Wheatley, Rhiannon Copeland and Clarice Cavill were fourth in both the obstacle and 4x1 lap relays.
