Midfielder can return to The Walks if Halifax move goes sour - boss Clark
Simon Clark says the door will always be open for Cameron King to return to King's Lynn after the midfielder left the Linnets for FC Halifax this week.
King penned a two-year deal with the Conference National outfit despite being offered a longer and improved deal to remain at The Walks.
The Linnets are entitled to compensation for King after offering the out-of-contract 22-year-old fresh terms in the summer.
Clark said: "We offered Cameron a long-term contract which allowed him to move on and progress. We knew that was his aim and we wanted to be part of that.
"We tried our utmost to keep him here. We understood that he had ambitions, but our own ambitions matched his and we wouldn't have stood in his way had another club come in for him.
"That's the same for any player at this football club. We want all of our players to progress because if they do that it means that we are playing well and winning football matches.
"Cameron has to understand that ambition is a very powerful motivator and while we have no problems of players going on to play at a higher level, we expect a certain commitment from players in return.
"The door is absolutely open for Cameron to return to King's Lynn if the move to Halifax doesn't work out and we wish him all the best with his new club."
The former Norwich City youngster impressed at The Walks last season after arriving on a short term deal in January, scoring six goals in 13 appearances (10 starts).
Lynn's search for fresh talent in the middle of the park is already in progress but Clark is delighted with how his squad is already taking shape.
"I'm disappointed that Cameron has gone but we will get a replacement," admitted Clark, who has already brought defender Kalern Thomas and striker Harry Limb to the club.
"I am in talks with a number of players, but our midfield is already outstanding with us having the likes of Michael Clunan, Ryan Jarvis, Craig Parker, Ryan Hawkins and Eoin McQuaid.
“It is all about having people that will work together, having a squad that complements each other.
"We want a cohesive and dynamic group but at the same time we want the players with us to flourish and be creative."
