Stay-away fans the losers as Linnets win some silverware
The many King's Lynn Town fans who stayed away from the inaugural King's Lynn Town Challenge Cup were the ones to miss out as the Linnets won their first silverware of the season.
It may have only been a summer tournament and the opposition may not have been up to the liking for some, but the quality of football and entertainment over three days of action was a cut-above your average pre-season offering.
Unfortunately, the Walks was devoid of atmosphere for all four matches as West Norfolk played host to many stars of the future.
Youthful teams from Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers, Poland’s Legia Warsaw, Norwich City and the Lynn first team all featured in a tournament which exceeded all expectations.
Linnets manager Simon Clark said: "When you play against full-time sides you know they are going to be sharp because they are all ahead of us physically.
"I think it was a fantastic event and all of the lads have really enjoyed it.
"Rangers are a fantastic football club and they were taken by their ex-first team manager so credit to him and credit to them.
"We knew it was going to be tough as they were younger and fitter than us and had an extra 24-hours rest.
"I thought we did really well. We stuck to a game plan, which worked, and I'm delighted for this football club."
Clark added: "Our open and link-up play in the first half was really good. That's in the players but we haven't worked on it yet in pre-season so it's only going to get better."
Lynn defeated an excellent Rangers outfit 1-0 at a sun-drenched Walks to complete a gruelling 24 hours of work for manager Simon Clark's side.
The only goal of the game came ten minutes in when Ryan Fryatt smashed a half-volley into the roof of the net after Michael Clunan’s corner had been headed back into the mix by the excellent Michael Gash.
In the earlier game on Sunday, Legia Warsaw defeated a youthful Norwich City team 3-0 to seal third place in the four-team tournament.
Just a little over 24-hours earlier, Lynn booked their place in the Sunday showpiece by beating the Canaries 4-1.
Striker Gash's cracking first-half goal was cancelled out by Spencer Keller shortly after the restart before Eoin McQuaid, Nathen Stewart and Harry Limb confirmed Lynn's place in the final.
Friday's curtain-raiser saw Rangers defeat their counterparts from Legia Warsaw 3-2 on penalties after a thrilling 90 minutes had ended all-square at 2-2.
