King's Lynn Town boss Clark: We will stick together

Manager Simon Clark has vowed that everyone at King’s Lynn Town will stick together after suffering back-to-back losses at the start of the season for the first time since the club was reformed.

Tuesday night’s 2-1 reverse at Kettering Town leaves the Linnets pointless going into another tough league assignment at Tamworth tomorrow.

But Clark remains upbeat and is adamant that his players will turn their poor start to the Southern Central Premier Division season around.

Clark said: “It has been a tough start. I won’t run or hide from it. We’ve conceded six goals in two games and that’s not good enough.

“It’s about what we do next and sticking together, and I include the fans in that too.

“The fans love this football club so I totally understand how they are feeling and they are entitled to their opinions. I know the group in that changing room will work and we will go again at Tamworth.

“We are only two games in. We’ve played a play-off team from last season away from home and a Biggleswade team where we dominated the ball and created more chances.”

Although Lynn improved in the second half on Tuesday night, Clark was disappointed with Lynn’s first-half showing in Northamptonshire.

Their only effort of the first half came courtesy of a Michael Clunan penalty that was saved by Paul White between the Kettering posts.

Clark felt that his side’s poor first half display cost his side dear against the Poppies.

“When you come away to places like Kettering, it’s about making a fast start,” admitted the Lynn boss.

“It’s all about being on the front foot, winning the knock downs and the second balls. In the first half we just weren’t at it against a side who are going to be up there this season.

“You have to win the first header and you have to be in the right areas to win the second phase off the first header.

“We had a game plan and when we did stick to it we had some success.

“But when we did get into good areas we didn’t move the ball quick enough and we allowed them to get back.”

Clark was buoyed by his team’s display after the restart.

“I thought we were a lot better second half and had a real go,” said Clark.

Tomorrow’s opponents have made a number of changes since their relegation at the end of last season.

Tamworth new boy Tyrell Waite, who missed a penalty in the 1-1 draw with Alvechurch in midweek, netted six in five games during pre-season while Akwasi Asante scored three times.

Striker Tyrone Ofori has signed forms with the Lambs following his release from Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season.

Right-back Jay Thorne has also signed after departing from Derby County following the end of his scholarship in May.
