King's Lynn defeat arch rivals Boston United in National League North

King's Lynn Town clinched their first away victory for almost four months with two second half goals against fierce rivals Boston United.

Gold Omotayo climbed off the bench to open the scoring before Olly Scott finally opened his account for the club deep into stoppage time.

The two sides traded punches for the opening 80 minutes before Lynn assumed control against former boss Ian Culverhouse and his battling Pilgrims.

Lynn manager Tommy Widrington made four changes from the club's last excursion – almost three weeks ago at Farsley Celtic – as they came face-to-face with their old management team.

Out went the quartet of Gold Omotayo, Cameron Hargreaves, Adam Crother and Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and in came Kyle Callan-McFadden, Ken Charles, Theo Widdrington and Ben Stephens.

Both midfielder Hargreaves and striker Jordan Ponticelli missed the short trip across the border with injury.

The home side were almost gifted the lead after seven minutes when Josh Coulson failed to clear his lines and Scott Pollock burst through, only to place his effort wide of the target.

A mistake from Zak Mills presented Lynn with their first opportunity at the other end of the pitch before the same player recovered to make a brilliant tackle on Ken Charles after Josh Barrett had played in the striker.

Barrett then struck the woodwork with a sublime free-kick from the edge of the box after Shaun Pearson was penalised for a foul on Charles.

The pace and work rate of Jordan Crawford caused Lynn all kinds of problems in the opening half-an-hour while Barrett gave the Lincolnshire outfit plenty to think about down the other end.

The Lynn playmaker made giant strides down the right into the home area in the 25th minute and Charles was just an outstretched foot away connecting with his cross-cum-shot.

Barrett then cut in from the left and almost picked out Tyler Denton during an open first 45 minutes.

Lynn defender Aaron Jones felt the full force of a Scott Pollock shot as an entertaining first half drew to a close.

A delightful chip from Barrett was turned over the woodwork by home goalkeeper Sam Long ten minutes after the restart as Lynn looked to break the deadlock.

But Boston responded as the derby suddenly sparked to life.

Scott McLintock's rasping long-range effort came back off the woodwork and Crawford's follow-up was comfortably saved by Jones.

Lynn finally broke the deadlock as Barrett teed up Omotayo to volley home from eight yards before Scott – the only outfield player not to net before today – added a second from an acute angle in the dying stages.
