King’s Lynn win at Brackley Town to go second in the National League North table
Brackley Town 0 King’s Lynn Town 1
Kyle Callan McFadden struck in the second half as King's Lynn Town moved back up to second in the National League North standings by winning at play-off hopefuls Brackley Town.
McFadden converted Tommy Hughes’ ball into the box after 73 minutes for the game's only goal at St James Park as Lynn kept their fifth successive clean sheet.
Lynn have not conceded in the league since their 2-1 defeat at South Shields more than a month ago.
Speaking after the 1-0 win, Lakeland told the club's media team: “Absolutely tremendous.
“They’re a good team - it’s one of the most difficult places to come in the league.
“I know they have a few players missing but I thought the control that we had right throughout the game, I thought we dominated large spells of it.
"We had real good control, looked a threat, looked organised, strong and to be honest, we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up at half-time.
"And sometimes at this level when you have so much dominance and you have so many good, clear-cut opportunities, if you don't take them they can come back and bite you and it puts a lot of pressure on you defensively to keep the back door shut.
"But that's our fifth clean sheet in a row, which at this level, is staggering really. We’ve kept going to the end, ground them down and Macca’s popped up with another important goal for us.”
Defensive midfielder Greg Taylor was suffering from illness but still played while Lynn were also without Cody Johnson who was back with Stockport County for the evening.
“He’s not been well but he just gets on with it,” said Lakeland.
“His output is phenomenal really. He’s obviously played in the middle of the park for us in recent weeks and his output – he’s like Benjamin Button, he’s going backwards, he’s getting stronger as he gets older.
“He just epitomises what we've got in this group.
“If you look beyond Greg, you’ve got Kian (Ronan), who hasn’t been in the squad the last couple of games let alone on the bench.
"He’s come into the XI and played superbly well and I am so pleased for him. Tommy Hughes came on - he’s been a little bit frustrated, kept working hard, his attitude has been spot on, and what a massive role he played for that 35 minutes, getting the assist for the goal.
“It's a group effort and everybody’s going to be important throughout the season. I've said that numerous times, but it's nights like tonight that highlight that.”
Next up for Adam Lakeland's high-flying side is a trip to Chester on Saturday.
