King's Lynn's Lambert shines for Team GB

King’s Lynn Stars racer Robert Lambert delivered a fine performance for Great Britain in the inaugural Speedway of Nations Pairs meeting in Manchester on Tuesday.

He carded eight-points from five outings as he partnered double world champion Tai Woffinden in helping GB through to the two-day final in Poland tomorrow and Saturday.

Lambert revealed: “We went with the plan to use Craig Cook in the first heat and me in the next one and see who’s firing. I got a win so Alun (Rossiter, team manager) put me in the next heat and we carried on.

“I would have been the same if Craig was going well. You’ve got to do what’s best for the team on the day. We’re a three-man team and if someone is having a bad day, the other one can step in. It worked well in the end.”

GB joined Sweden as automatic qualifiers with Australia winning the knockout heat to join them. Host nation Poland are automatically through with Russia, Germany and Denmark completing the seven-team line-up.

Dersingham racer Lewis Kerr is putting no pressure on his first-ever British final at Belle Vue on Monday.

He said: "It's huge. I'm looking forward to it. It's a no-pressure meeting for me: make some starts and hopefully get something. I'll relax and enjoy it, and I ride better like that."

Both Kerr and Lynn team-mate Robert Lambert are taking part.
