Lynn Stars create club history by making play-off final

SGB PREMIERSHIP PLAY-OFF

SEMI-FINAL SECOND LEG

King's Lynn Stars 54

Belle Vue Aces 36

(Lynn win 103-77 on aggregate)

King’s Lynn created club history by making their first appearance in a speedway top flight play-off final on Monday night.

Robert Lambert notched a paid maximum 11+1 points while Erik Riss top scored with 11+2.

There were no commentators to accompany the BT Sport cameras at the Adrian Flux Arena. Maybe this was not a total surprise given that the Tru Plant Stars led Belle Vue by eight points going into this home second leg, while it was much tighter at Wimborne Road.

Hosts Poole were just 46-44 down going into their second home leg versus Somerset, so the BT crew must have felt a tighter overall result was imminent on the south coast.

This was looking like the correct call as Lynn raced into a 10-2 lead; Robert Lambert just a half-second away from the Saddlebow Road stadium track record, and Riss plus reserves Michael Palm Toft and Simon Lambert doing the honours with 5-1 race maximum wins.

Lynn were six points up at midway, 14 ahead on aggregate, despite Niels-Kristian Iversen suffering a Heat 4 fuel pipe split and mechanical failure three outings later in his first two rides.

Inspired late season signing Riss and Simon Lambert increased this to 10 with a Heat 8 maximum.

Lynn’s aggregate lead of 18 looked insurmountable at the midway stage thanks to their third maximum from the Riss/S.Lambert pairing.

Palm Toft and fellow reserve Simon Lambert were again strong, outpointing their opposite numbers.

The Aces notched a Heat 9 5-1 from Dimitri Berge and Tobiasz Musielak, but Robert Lambert and Riss replied with a 5-1 of Lynn’s own straight away.

Iversen and skipper Lambert notched a fifth 5-1 for the home side.

Heat 14 ‘Mr Reliable’ Thomas Jorgensen delivered to lead a 4-2; while Riss and Jorgensen took the final nominated heat 5-1 as the Stars’ set-up again looks a powerful prospect for next week’s two-legged Grand Final on Monday and Wednesday, the latter seeing Lynn at home.
