Defender is blown away by Lynn potential
Defender Kalern Thomas decided to join King's Lynn Town because he was impressed by manager Simon Clark and the stature of the club.
The Leicester-based youngster admitted he was blown away by Lynn's potential and the enthusiasm of Clark before finally agreeing terms at The Walks.
Thomas, who was with Lynn's Southern Central League rivals Kettering Town last season, said: "King's Lynn are a massive club and I knew that before I signed.
"I've played against them a few times and know what they are all about. They were very unlucky not to go up in the play-offs last season and were one of the best sides in the league.
"They've kept the majority of their squad, but what really made my mind up was the enthusiasm and professionalism of the manager.
"Simon is so enthusiastic about football and how he wants to play, and that's exactly how I approach the game myself.
"Winning the Southern League with Corby was massive in my career and now I'd like to do the same at King's Lynn.
"The club has got massive potential to kick on next season and I can't wait to be a part of it."
Although he has big boots to fill following Cameron Norman's departure to Oxford United, Thomas says he is not phased by the task in hand.
"I'm very confident in my own ability and I'm sure that I can win the fans over," said Thomas.
"I don't feel too much pressure. I try to play my own game and let my performances do the talking.
"How the manager wants to play is going to suit my attributes. I thrive on one-to-one defending, but I also like to get forward and support the strikers."
The 23-year-old, who is primarily a right-sided defender but also capable of playing on the left, began his career on the books of Walsall before turning out for Quorn in the United Counties League.
He has also played for Solihull Moors, Corby Town and Boston United.
On his new recruit, Clark said: "Kalern came in very late at Kettering last season and was the best right-back there from January onwards.
"He has tremendous foot speed, which is always good for a defender, and he is very comfortable on the ball.
"His fitness levels are incredible. He makes great distance up the pitch, but is also a very good defender.
"He loves to be coached and is another lad who is at the right age to improve further.
"Another big plus is that he is experienced at this level and the one above. Kalern has an intrinsic motivation that all managers want their players to have."
Clark has his eye on a number of transfer targets and hopes to bring in at least three more new faces before the start of the new season.
