Lynn rink hockey players continue their progress at Burwell tournament
After a much-improved tournament a month ago, under-17 rink hockey players from Lynn were keen to keep the momentum going at Burwell.
The final scorelines reflected the abilities and experience of the Lynn team and those of their opponents.
What the two bigger losses don’t account for is the continuous effort and determination put in by all the players in every minute of every game, regardless of what/who they were up against.
Excellent games with excellent teams highlighted Lynn’s training and development needs that will be worked on with the coaches.
The win against Soham – their first of the season – was very well deserved and was only so close due to momentary lapses in defence later on in the game.
A close encounter with Colchester involved a full-on 30 minutes of non-stop, all-round play and could well have ended a draw, a win or a loss.
Every aspect of the game was on show and the attitude and abilities (individually and as a team) showed the greatly improved cohesion of the squad.
A compliment to Lynn was that Colchester played their strongest and most experienced players for the whole game to maximise their chances.
It was so close that a last-second Lynn shot was narrowly saved by the goalkeeper’s head, a reflection on how things could have changed in an instant.
Lynn goalkeeper Harrison Belham was extremely reliable and gave the team confidence with many amazing saves.
However, the attacks from certain teams were very often unstoppable as they were so well orchestrated and delivered with precision passes and shots.
Thank you to all the parents, supporters, timekeepers, referees, coaches and coordinators and sponsors Epic Embriodery and Hidden Blinds.
Goalscorers for Lynn on the day were: Grace Davey, Cole Easter and Nancy Rutty.
