Ryston members greeted with perfect conditions for five-mile series
Half-a-dozen Ryston Runners members were greeted with almost perfect conditions the final race of the Yarmouth five-mile series.
Temperatures were excellent for negotiating the two-lap course and Adam Mathews ran a PB time for the distance of 27.37, to finish fifth overall and second SM, while Jane Ashby won the W70 category in 41.41.
Martin Blackburn (M60) ran 39.43, Jeff Reed (M70) 48.05, and Helen Reed was delighted to dip under 50 minutes once more, sprinting in to beat the clock and being rewarded with 49.58, an age PB for her and achieved after some prolonged struggles with injuries.
Martin Sheldrick celebrated the Spring Bank Holiday weekend with a PB for the Half Marathon over the picturesque but extremely testing course in Edinburgh.
Coping admirably with the head winds along the coast as well as the undulating terrain, Sheldrick clocked 1.23.22 for 118th
place overall and was seventh in the M45 age group.
Also competing in Edinburgh, Kevin Farquhar ran 1.42.34 and Wendy 3.18.40.
Barry Smith sadly had to pull out of the proceedings with a calf injury just before the 10-mile mark.
The Elche 10k in Valencia, Spain, turned out to be more of a multi-terrain event. Pete Duhig completed the course in a conservative 54.56 for 10th place in the M60 category, while Cath Duhig walked it in 64.26, just a tad slower than her time over the same distance at the European Masters Championships the previous week.
It was still good enough for second place in the W60 age group.
The majority of Ryston members competed in an event over the weekend supporting Megan's Challenge with a 10k in Gayton.
The first athletes home were Callum Stanforth, Adam Matthews and Nic Bensley.
