Ryston record satisfying results at Dereham 5k
A score of Ryston Runners took part in The Great War Centenary 5k road race at Dereham on Sunday and club members produced some satisfying results.
Callum Stanforth was third overall in 16.10. Richard Ebbs won the M45 category, 12th overall in 17.15.
Malcolm Tuff, after another injury hiccup, was pleased to be running again and celebrated with second in the M50 category, 37th overall, in 18.13.
Jane Ashby and Pauline Sparrow dominated the W65 category, taking first and second respectively with just a second’s difference in their chip times separating them (25.21 and 22).
Near misses as far as category honours were concerned were recorded by a number of competitors.
These were: Stewart Robins (fourth M50/47th/18.38), Kevin Howlett (4th M60/133rd/21.04), and Gill Hart (fourth W65/324th/ 28.19), her best for 5k since 2012, with Martin Sheldrick (fifth M45/40th/18.19) and Lesley Robins (fifth W45/142nd/21:28) also closing in on the podium in their respective categories.
John Hopgood made the top 20 out of the 418 finishers with 17.26.

The previous weekend, Matt Allen of Ryston Runners was the only sub-hour finisher in the City of Preston 10 mile race, claiming first place by more than minutes as well as the M40 winning title, with a time of 57.57.
