Danish ace hails King's Lynn turnaround at reserve

Birthday boy Thomas Jorgensen says his inspired display during a first outing as King’s Lynn Stars speedway reserve this season was a "turnaround" for both his club and him personally.

Lynn ended a run of five league losses by triumphing 55-35 over visitors Wolves on Thursday in the Premiership.

Jorgensen – who was sung 'Happy Birthday' at the post-meeting press conference after marking his 30th with paid 17 points – said: "It was a complete turnaround personally for myself, points-wise.

"Obviously at Belle Vue (a 61-29 loss on Monday) we struggled to get anything to work with the set-up and the rest of it.

"We all knew tonight was going to be very important; it was must-win.

"It's just nice to finally be back on the scoreboard again."

On the exciting Heat 15 where places were dizzyingly swapped before he and Richard Lawson sealed a 5-1 maximum victory, Lynn’s Dane commented: "I was quite lucky on the last corner.

"I was sitting on the inside for most of the four laps because I found it was working in my previous heat.

"For some reason it never works, but it was. I was forced to stay on the inside. I was gaining and getting closer to the guy in front.

"I just stayed and tried to keep the bike upright. I might have been a bit lucky when Nick (Wolves' Morris) made a mistake on the last corner, with me coming through, but, yes it was good and as I said, nice to be back on the scoreboard."

The 30-year-old Aalborg-born rider revealed he has been having problems with engines: "I have had no end of troubles.

"I've sent engines to be serviced and they come back completely different. I write everything down in a book of the set-up I'm using. A lot of riders do too,

"You just can't do that if the engine is different when it comes back from service so you have to start from scratch and you shouldn't have to do that on your home track here.

"I knew in my spare bike (brought over from Denmark) obviously that's my original Lynn engine."

He told the Lynn News: "The bike I used in my first two heats (Denmark) packed up so I jumped on the other bike and I just had to have faith in it. It worked.

"My Lynn engine I never really got going but we tried something completely different and it worked.

"When you have trouble like that with engines it plays on your mind and you're probably too stiff on the bike and you fight it too hard instead of just relaxing.

"It's difficult to explain but it has been very tough for me."

Minors & Brady Stars team boss Alex Brady confirmed that skipper Josh Pickering and Richard Lawson will again be his chosen two riders in Monday's (18) Premiership Pairs, with Jason Edwards the Rising Star reserve.

He has narrowed Niels-Kristian Iversen's replacement down to two riders, and he will know who it'll be after this weekend's Polish fixtures; and added of the Wolves win: "It was a decent crowd and good racing.

"Richard was much, much better. They were all on it and realised the importance of the meeting. We'd spoke about it a heck of a lot over the course of this week."
