King’s Lynn speedway manager Alex Brady – with Richie Worrall, Stars have best reserve in Premiership

Stars manager Alex Brady feels that with Richie Worrall, King’s Lynn have the best speedway reserve in the league.

Brady and new skipper Josh Pickering were speaking at today’s (Thursday) press and practice day, and the Minors & Brady club management feel it is important to have a strong reserve like last year’s league champions Peterborough.

Lynn, who finished bottom of the table last year, are eager to begin the 2022 Premiership season well, away to old rivals Ipswich in the new regionalised league cup competition on Thursday.

Brady said of team building: “Overall it’s been a big challenge but I’m really happy at how it has all panned out.

“The reaction of the fans has been very good to the team that we’ve managed to build.

“I think they’re as every bit as excited as we are as a management team and the group of riders.

“All roads lead to Ipswich next Thursday and I can’t wait to start. The make-up of the team is to have a solid one-to-seven throughout and have that strong reserve which was crucial for last year’s league winners Peterborough.

“We felt that last year where we were lacking, if a rider in the top five wasn’t performing as well as they could have done, no disrespect to the people down at reserve last year, we didn’t really feel we had the ammunition and firepower down there to bring somebody in to replace them.

“With Richie Worrall down at reserve I think we have the best reserve in the league.”

Pickering was a victim of speedway’s ‘numbers game’ at Sheffield which led to his exit.

The 25-year-old Australian said: “It’s going to be a new challenge but I’m up for it. When I came here from Sheffield last year I was pretty good.

“When Alex got in contact I said I’m available and would like to come here if still needed, and we did a deal within 12 hours.”
