King’s Lynn prepare for opening Premiership clash of the season against reigning champions Belle Vue
King's Lynn skipper Nicolai Klindt says the riders feel a responsibility to the club to reward their winter efforts with a strong season on track.
The Stars made a super start to the new campaign with their KO Cup win at home to Oxford earlier this week, meaning they travelled to Cowley last night (Thursday) handily placed with a 16-point advantage.
It was early vindication of the team’s building strategy, with Chris Harris the ace card at reserve - and he’ll be there again this coming Monday when they kick off their league campaign against champions Belle Vue at the Adrian Flux Arena.
And after coming into the side during two of the past three campaigns only to be struck down by injury, Klindt says he’s delighted to be starting the season at a club where he feels entirely comfortable.
“That was one of the things I said as soon as I came back (last year), as soon as I stepped my foot into the door and went into the pits, I felt at home,” he said.
“It’s a track that I never enjoyed coming to in the past, but I love coming to it now, and I class it as my home.
“With the team that the club have built this year it’s very, very exciting, and we are going to surprise a lot of people.
“Some people are saying that we’re the underdogs, which is fine with me. There are other teams who could be favourites, but we have riders in our team that can beat every single other team’s No.1 and No.5, and that’s where our strength is.
“The club have put an enormous effort in behind the scenes, not just team- wise but also with improvements to race nights, etcetera, and we as riders realise that.
“They want it to be a big season and I’m pretty certain that it will be, whether we end up getting silverware or not.”
The good news for the popular Danish racer is that the neck injuries of the last two seasons are right behind him, and an intensive winter of work and preparation has left Klindt in a great position as the racing calendar gets into full swing.
Klindt said: “I’m feeling very good. I’ve put in a lot of hard work, not just physically and mentally, but also behind the scenes.
“I don’t think I’ve been this well prepared in many, many years, both on and off the track, so I’m looking forward to a big 2025.”
