The future is bright at Swaffham Town
Swaffham Town manager Paul Hunt believes the future is bright at Shoemakers Lane.
The Pedlars’ under-18s side won the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties Youth League North Division for a second successive season, having reached the last four of the competition's overall championship.
This sees the winners of the eight regionalised leagues compete for an overall title.
As well as success in the club’s under-18s team, several Swaffham youngsters have gone on to make appearances for the club’s senior side in the Thurlow Nunn League.
These include Cameron Lee, Connor Germaney, Jack Prentice, Kieran Bruce, Nathan Trundle, Sam Carter and Tommy Hunt.
A proud Hunt said:
“Went we travelled to Woodbridge at the end of the season we have six players involved from the under-18 side.
“They (Woodbridge) were unbeaten at home all season and we went there and beat them. That performance shows just how far they have developed and what they are capable of.
“It’s great to see the lads develop and you want them pushing hard to get into the first team.”
Hunt paid tribute to under-18 chief Nathan Pack, who has already committed to the club for next season.
“I managed the under-18s for the 16/17 season, so I wanted to make sure the right person took them and I could have asked for someone better to pass them on to than Nathan," admitted Hunt.
“The relationship he had with the squad and the respect they for him and each other is fantastic. A lot of credit has to go to him for what they have achieved.”
Pack believes that Swaffham’s one club mentality was key in the overall success of the youngsters last term.
“Everything we do at Swaffham is as one club,” said Pack.
“The players know if they work hard and show what they can do, there is a chance they will break into the first team or the reserves and that’s great for their motivation.
“Our success has been a real squad effort. I harp on to the lads constantly that there is no I in team and I can’t stress how important that attitude is.
“We are already planning for next season and would love to win the division for a third consecutive season.”
