King’s Lynn move back into the National League North play-off spots with first-ever win at Buxton
Buxton 0 King’s Lynn Town 1
Greg Taylor added another spectacular goal to his collection as King's Lynn Town Town returned to winning ways with a crucial victory at Buxton this afternoon.
Taylor - already with humdingers to his name at Spennymoor Town and Southport this campaign - rifled home the winner midway through the second half as Lynn collected their first-ever win at the Silverlands Stadium.
It saw Adam Lakeland’s side complete the double over their Derbyshire opponents.
Speaking after the game, Linnets boss Lakeland said: “I thought that was a great game.
“Fair play to both teams. I think they are certainly up there with one of the best football teams in the league and if you're not organised and you don't concentrate, they can just carve through you. They put a lot of goals past some teams.
“It was about us being disciplined, being organised, having good concentration, trying to be better with the ball when we turned it over, which I felt we were probably second half a little bit better, obviously it helped when they went down to 10 men.”
The three points were good enough to lift the Linnets back into the final play-off place in the National League North table at the expense of Curzon Ashton and the Bucks.
A minute after Taylor's opener, returning Linnets defender Kyle Callan McFadden was on hand to acrobatically scramble Jonny Johnston's effort off the line to keep the visitors' lead intact.
“I saw his acrobatic kick to kick it off the line,” said the Lynn boss.
“I didn't see what happened in the build-up to that.
“All I remember is we scored and then I've got Macca kicking it off the line. I will have to watch it back. I was trying to speak to Jonny Margetts because he was coming on.”
“He (McFadden) is one of the best centre-halves in this league.
“You take one of the best centre-halves out of any team and results are generally going to dip a little bit.
“He's a massive player for us. I thought he was outstanding today, as was everybody to a man.”
Next week, Lynn are back on the road again with a trip to Leamington.
