It's hot, hot hot for athletes at Marham 10k and duathlon
The heat was on for West Norfolk athletes at the RAF Marham 10k and duathlon (RAF 100) on Sunday.
In extremely hot conditions, four members of West Norfolk Athletic Club participated in the popular event.
Ben Collison was first to start in the duathlon.
On the two-lap cycle course, Collison was in a group of six on the first lap chasing the lead cyclists.
This decreased to four as they arrived to complete the 20k cycle.
With the 10k race starting just as the lead group of three cyclists arrived, Collison had runners to chase to make up ground on the leaders.
Chasing down the third place competitor, Collison managed to be just 20 seconds off as he finished fourth.
The first home in the run was
Katrina Wasteney in 11th place overall and first female in a time off 44.14.
Next to finish was Rick Bailey in a time of 54.11 with Hannah Marsters finishing in 76.23.
The annual event was also well supported by Ryston in all categories.
Matt Allen won the 10k run outright in 36.13 with new member Dominic Hughes second in 37.15.
Stewart Robins (M50) was fifth in 40.38 and Paul Carter eighth in 43.46.
Les Scott (M60) made the top 10 too, ninth in 43.57, Mel Reed was second woman in 46.15, with Linda Marshall (W50/ 24th/ 48.51) and Pauline Sparrow (W65/43rd/54.49) all placed first in their respective age groups.
Other Ryston finishers were: Kevin Farquhar (13th/46.16), Sam Yare (22nd/48.45), Anne Smith (29th/51.14), Judith Berry (35th/53.13), Martin Blackburn (37th/53.25), Damon Finney (55.11), and Wendy Farquahar (73rd/83.15).
Club secretary Penny Seeger was placed second (93.20) in the women's duathlon in her first attempt at such an event.
Nic Bensley (79.10) was sixth overall, with Keith Morris (96.42) and Stephen Mickleburgh (98.41) completing the Ryston contingent in 20th and 21st places respectively.
