Final match of a competitive season
Saturday saw the last match in the Norfolk Sportshall League for this season at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich.
Ryston had a good turnout of 11 boys and seven girls meaning the under-11 and under-13 boys were able to field teams, as were the under-13 girls.
Following the first two matches the under-13 boys were sitting in third.
With a strong team again this time they were hopeful of retaining that place – something they managed to achieve, to the delight of the boys, their parents, their team manager and the club.
All of the competitors at the match worked incredibly hard in their events, with some trying new events for the first time.
The team spirit was evident with athletes supporting each other when events went well and in cases where they didn’t go quite as planned, and, in summarising the notable performances of the day, the club’s team managers decided that accolade should go to all athletes for giving it their all in the last match.
Under-11 boys: Marcus Wood, Seb Bennell, James McDermid, Dylan Whithouse and Ackara Black worked brilliantly as a team and adapted unquestioningly to last minute changes on the day.
They were also third in the obstacle relay and the six lap paarlauf.
Under-13 boys: Riley Bell, Ryan Wood, David MacQueen and Oakley Took placed second overall in obstacle relay and third in 4 x 2 lap relay.
Wood was first in speed bounce, while MacQueen took second places in the standing triple jump, standing long jump, four-lap and two-lap.
Bell and Oakley faced tough competition in their events as they are in their first year of the age group, always a challenge when you are against athletes who are a school year older than you.
Under-15 boys were represented by Liam Clare and Kieran Bell.
Clare had his best finishes with second in the two-lap, third in the shot put and fourth in the four-lap.
Bell saw his best finish in standing long jump with second.
Under-11 girls: Abigail Bransgrove, Charley Wheatley, and Clarice Cavill fought hard in their events with Wheatley and Cavill proving their strong partnership with a win in the six-lap paarlauf.
U13 girls: Lucy Oakley, Demi Adegoke, Shannon Wheatley and Freya Knight produced a great team effort, giving it their all in every event.
