West Norfolk sides up for the FA Cup

Fakenham Town manager Andy Cunningham is backing his side to build on Tuesday night’s impressive 3-1 victory over Norwich CBS when they travel to Thetford Town in the FA Cup tomorrow night (Friday).

Callum Brain’s strike and a brace from Reece Taylor ensured the Ghosts returned from the FDC with all three points, putting their opening day defeat to Ipswich Wanderers behind them at the first attempt.

Cunningham’s side travel to Thurlow Nunn Premier Division outfit Thetford this evening (7.45pm), and he insists his side have nothing to fear against their higher-level opposition.

“We have got nothing to fear,” said the Ghosts chief.

“The pressure is all on them, they are the higher level side and will be expected to beat us.

“I don’t mind that, it gives us a chance to just go and focus on ourselves and our game plan.

“We will respect them, it’s going to be a tough game, but we won’t fear them.

“FA Cup games are the ones you always want to be involved in so we will go there on a high looking to push on after Tuesday’s win.

“Tuesday was a big three points for us, CBS are a good side, with a strong squad, so we can take a lot of confidence from that and I want us to push on.”

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Swaffham Town were frustrated by Wisbech St Mary who left Shoemakers Lane with all three points after a scrappy 2-1 victory over Paul Hunt’s side.

The Pedlars welcome United Counties League outfit Yaxley to Shoemakers Lane on Saturday with Hunt confident his side can put together a strong FA Cup run this term.

The winners of tomorrow’s ties will receive £2,250 in prize money and a place in Monday’s draw.

Downham Town are in Thurlow Nunn First Division North action tomorrow when they visit Harleston Town, who Swaffham beat on the opening day of the season a week ago.

King’s Lynn Town Reserves, fresh from their brilliant 2-1 victory over March Town United (see below) are also on their travels with a game at Diss.
