Cluedo 2 - The Next Chapter: Theatre Royal Norwich
For a fun evening, with plenty of giggles alongside a tricky whodunnit, this is a perfect treat.
Based on the classic board game that’s still popular today, it plays on our great love of solving puzzles, murder mysteries and all manner of double dealing.
This production is set in the Swinging Sixties and sees all our favourite characters - Mrs White, Colonel Mustard and, of course, the bombshell that is Miss Scarlett.
In true cosy crime tradition, they all meet at a remote country house, this time belonging to fading rock star Rick Black, played by Liam Horrigan, who becomes the first victim. The first of many.
The staging is terrific, tightly choreographed with some perfect timing from the cast. There are lots of carefully rehearsed ab-libs, asides to the audience and genuinely funny slapstick moments.
Strictly champ Ellie Leach plays interior designer Annabel Scarlett and Heartbeat’s Jason Durr is Colonel Eugene Mustard, the dodgy American manager.
I really liked Hannah Boyce as Emerald Peacock, the supermodel wife, who wasn’t quite as she seemed - which appeared to be true of everyone.
I’m not totally sure that I followed the entire plot as the body count did start to add up but if you love a spoof, it’s for you. And do look out for a few topical references - Trump gets a mention as does Lowestoft!
The show continues until Saturday. Visit www.norwichtheatre.org
