Review of Castle Rising Tearoom: A hidden gem with delicious roasts at reasonable prices
After a trip to Sandringham, I was on the hunt for a cafe to stop by for some lunch when I found a little gem of a tearoom.
After searching for nearby cafes on my phone, Castle Rising Tearooms popped up and looked like a very cosy and quirky venue in the heart of the community.
So, last Monday lunchtime, my mum and I headed over. When we arrived, we were impressively shocked; we had never seen this place when pacing through the village before. It blends in beautifully with the surrounding buildings.
It was very busy, with people sitting outside in the tearoom garden and several tables taken inside - with many reserved.
After taking a seat, we looked through the menu, which had a wide variety on offer including sandwiches, afternoon teas – these had to be booked in advance – jacket potatoes, salads, breakfasts, and special dishes on the board behind the till.
Once we had made up our minds, I went up to the till and ordered.
We decided to get a pot of tea for two (£3.95). For food, I was torn between the quiche of the day or a roast, but was persuaded to go for the latter after seeing many dishes coming out of the kitchen that looked amazing and smelled delicious. I opted for a pork roast.
My mum was tempted by a jacket potato and a roast, but also ended up going for a roast – she had the beef roast. The meals were £13.95 each.
We did not have to wait too long – around 15 minutes – for our food. It came out stacked up, with a giant Yorkshire pudding on top.
We were both very impressed with the amount of food on the plate – we definitely got our money's worth.
The roast tasted as good as it looked. It was smothered in gravy and the Yorkshire pudding was homemade with a fresh taste.
I really liked the cauliflower cheese as I could taste the mustard, which added extra flavour – I have never had mustard in mine before, and it was a nice change.
The pork was particularly yummy and there was a great amount, while it was not dry at all. I could not fault my food at all.
My mum really enjoyed her’s and thought it was a great portion size – although she could not finish it all.
She commented on the meat being nice and tender and not chewy like in some other eateries she has been to.
She particularly liked the roast potatoes and the seasoning on them, and loved the “proper gravy”. However, not being a great mustard fan, she was not as keen on the cauliflower cheese - but other than that, she had no complaints.
Once we had finished, we did have a look at their tasty-looking cakes on display - but we had to pass as we had very full bellies.
Our total bill came to a reasonable £31.85. For the amount of food that we got and the quality of it, I was very pleased.
Overall, we both had a great experience at this little hidden gem, and the customer service was brilliant as the staff were so friendly. They could not have done any more.
We both really enjoyed the food and it was one of the best roasts we have had when out. We will both 100% be returning when we are out that way again.
