That’s Entertainment: Andy Tyler discusses upcoming events in and around King’s Lynn, including circus, exhibitions, Easter panto and musicals show
In his weekly That’s Entertainment column, Andy Tyler looks at some exciting upcoming events...
This spring has certainly seen no shortage of fine and exciting events to feature in the column, so I’ll get straight on without further delay.
Circus Mondao is back at Knights Hill, Rising Lodge Farm Shop, Grimston Road, PE30 3HQ, and has shows daily, except for Monday, 17 and Tuesday, 18 when there are no performances. The final performance is at 2pm on Sunday, March 23. For more information, call 07722 791777 or find the circus on Facebook.
Tomorrow at the Gaywood Church Rooms, St Faith’s Church is holding its Spring Fair between 2pm and 3.30pm. There is plenty to enjoy as a variety of stalls, a raffle, a tombola, and refreshments will be available. All are welcome.
A reminder, as I mentioned last week, to visit the new Chequer House Gallery, which is holding an excellent exhibition entitled Spring Fever in their newly opened premises in King’s Street, Lynn. I was especially impressed with Helena Anderson’s pop-up exhibition, The Humble Silk Worm, which works on silk surfaces, striking and original. There are certainly exciting plans for the future development of the gallery, I understand.
While you are in King’s Street, why not visit The GroundWork Gallery and Greyfriars Art Space? The GroundWork Gallery is located on Purfleet Street, just around the corner, and Greyfriars Art Space is almost opposite The Chequer House Gallery on the Custom House ground floor. Three artistic venues within a few minutes walk from each other!
Exciting news from the King’s Lynn Festival. Several festival events can be booked from March 24, before the full programme announcement is made in April for the summer.
They are: Brecon Baroque, with soloist and conductor Rachel Podger, Sam Lee, fine folksinger, Lady Nade, singing Nina Simone, Voice vocal trio, performing their programme, Medieval Women in Song, and famous classical pianist Freddy Kempf performing music by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin and Shostakovich.
Do visit: www.kingslynnfestival.org.uk for details. Tickets for the festival’s current Coffee Concert series are available by phoning 01553 764864.
There is an exciting new season of concerts being presented by the Music in the Burnhams organisation starting later this month. For details, visit: musicintheburnhams.com or contact Marian Abramovich, chair of trustees on 07989 177079.
For sci-fi fans especially, my film recommendation this week is Mickey 17, a zany Sci-fi satire. It’s Bong Joon-ho’s latest film since his excellent Parasite, and is well worth a watch!
I hope the recent World Book Day was marked by many readers in some way. I was delighted to learn that great actor Sir Anthony Hopkins is due to have his memoirs published later this year. Certainly a book to look forward to.
I thought I would finish writing about pantos earlier in the year but I notice there’s an Easter panto coming our way on Wednesday, April 9 at 2 and 6pm. The venue is Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange, and The Wizard of Oz is going down that yellow brick road again! Tickets are available, so contact 01553 764864 now.
The KLODS are going Back To The Musicals when they give a concert at St Nicholas’ Chapel on April 3 and 5. It is 100 Years in the Spotlight, covering the period from the 1920s to the 2020s. Should be musical magic!
Lastly, more musical magic. A reminder that The Norfolk Symphony Orchestra perform music by Borodin, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky at Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange, this Sunday at 3.30pm. Tickets are available by contacting 01553 764864. Free tickets may still be available for young concert-goers.
