EAT MY WORDS: Review of the Tipsy Teapot in King’s Lynn

Picking a spot for a pre-night out meal can be a challenge – and might end up making or breaking your evening.

Eat too little and you’ll be destined for an early bedtime. Too much and the result could be gruesome.

Luckily for us, starting off at Lynn’s Tipsy Teapot turned out to be an inspired Saturday night choice.

Myself and fellow Lynn News colleagues Rebekah, Lucy and Molly enjoyed a great mix of delicious food and exciting drinks at the popular spot.

Having booked a few weeks in advance, we were seated in a prime spot in the downstairs area. We were impressed by the decor, which creates a lovely atmosphere.

Rebekah described it as a “feast for the eyes”, with our booth being covered in fake foliage and fairy lights.

We had high expectations for the drinks menu, and weren’t left disappointed. Having had a long day of football and driving, I stuck to the Staropramen lager – £5.15 per pint is around the norm, so I wasn’t too fussed.

Rebekah and Molly started off by sharing a Blush Clush cocktail for two (£15), which was served in a teapot. They found it “fruity and delicious”, and said they could have had it all evening.

Lucy enjoyed a Raspberry Tipsicle (£7.95), which she said tasted “unique, sweet and summery”.

Then came our make-or-break moment – would the food set us up for a long night ahead? The answer was a resounding yes.

After building up an appetite, I tucked into the bacon, brie and cranberry burger. The portion size was generous, and it was accompanied by chips – a particular highlight – and red cabbage coleslaw.

I felt as though the brie and cranberry sauce lacked a little bit of flavour, but apart from that it was a great meal. I’d pay £14.50 for it again.

Rebekah said: “Having sampled a fair few plant based burgers over the years, Tipsy Teapot's offering (£13) was really tasty, with a ‘meaty’ patty, seasoned fries and coleslaw.

“I'm not usually a huge fan of coleslaw, but this was a creamy, flavoursome version which I did enjoy.”

Molly opted for the chicken and chorizo skewers, which were served with tortillas, salad, peppers, onions and the classic fajita toppings of salsa, sour cream and guacamole.

The meat was sizzling hot on arrival – emitting a brilliant noise – although she felt the £14 price tag was a little on the expensive side.

Lucy said: “When choosing what to have for my main course, the tofu ‘frachos’ really caught my eye as I’ve never seen nachos served with tofu before.

“Served with salsa, guacamole, fries, tofu and vegan cheese, it was spicy yet delicious and I was impressed with the generous portion size of the price too.

“It was the perfect mix of crunch along with melted cheese too. I can’t wait to make a return to try more from Tipsy Teapot’s varied menu.”

Staff were friendly and informative throughout our visit, and checked on allergy and dietary requirements – which was good to see.

They were also happy to give some cocktail recommendations to the girls, with Lucy so impressed by the look of the Blush Clush that she decided to have one herself.

It was a busy night, with the downstairs area nearly full and giving off a lovely atmosphere. Having successfully lined our stomachs, it felt only right that we move upstairs to sample the party bar.

We weren’t disappointed. It was much louder as you’d expect, with a number of groups enjoying some upbeat music – which I enjoyed aside from one particularly ear-numbing Nirvana remix.

I stuck to the pints, but the girls experimented with some bubble cocktails which both looked the part and tasted great.

All things considered, this was the perfect place to kick off our staff night out. We were treated to some delicious meals at not too bad a price, and could quickly make the switch from relaxed dining to vibrant drinking.

We’ll definitely be back.
