New exhibition at True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum in King’s Lynn celebrates friendship and art of newly-formed group
Artworks are set to be displayed to celebrate new friendships made at a community craft group.
A new exhibition hosted by True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum in Lynn will display more than 25 artworks created by the newly-formed Arty Friends Group, celebrating the friendships they have made by joining their local arts and crafts group.
Every person involved in ‘The Art of Friendship’ exhibition has a fascinating story to tell about their life experiences and the group has formed very strong friendships by coming together to share their love of creating art, even if the thought of it terrified some of them to start with.
As Delores Bridger, who is a volunteer at True’s Yard and was inspired to put the exhibition together, said: “When I first came to Lynn from South Africa two years ago, I did not know anyone, so I decided to volunteer.
“The Arts and Crafts Club welcomed me with open arms and we wanted to come together to hold an exhibition. True’s Yard offered us a space in the Old Smithy to do just that.”
Gaynor Western, assistant curator of the museum, added: “True’s Yard is delighted and honoured to be able to share these artworks and the joy that they have brought to the Arty Friends Group in creating them.
“I have only had a sneak preview but there is a delightful range of subjects and styles, which anyone can appreciate and enjoy.
“It’s great that we have a little piece of the life histories of the artists that created the pictures as well. People will have a lot of fun coming to see them.”
The Art of Friendship exhibition is free and opens at noon on Thursday, March 20, running until mid-May.
The art is for sale and may be purchased for reasonable prices, with a small donation from the proceeds going to the museum.
