Fakenham Town Band partnering with Broadway Boogie for live music exercise class at community centre and ‘End of an Era’ rehearsal

Fakenham Town Band is approaching a year of change, but its aim is still very much to entertain people.

The band has announced it will be partnering with Broadway Boogie with Hannah on Saturday at 1.30pm at Fakenham Community Centre.

Bringing a fusion of Broadway music, a live brass band, and an exercise class, this promises to be an exciting afternoon with a twist.

Broadway Boogie is led by Hannah, who grew up playing cornet with the band and is still very much a member. She is often found with her cornet at a concert and occasionally conducting the group.

Hannah’s latest venture into exercise classes has led her to come up with the idea of ‘Boogie with the Band’ – a live music exercise class.

Those who are a little less energetic are welcome to go along, listen to the band, and maybe just have a little dance to their own beat.

With everything from Grease and Hairspray to Shake, Rattle and Roll – there’s lots of variety on offer.

The event will include a grand raffle with fantastic prizes donated by local businesses. All proceeds will go to the band.

Tickets are £6 per person or £25 for a group of five and can be booked at https://gymcatch.com/app/provider/7629/events and paid for at https://tinyurl.com/4rhf8ksu

The band will also be holding an ‘End of an Era’ rehearsal on Thursday, April 24 at Trap Lane Pavilion.

Having been given notice to quit by April 30, to allow the demolition of the pavilion to make way for the new leisure centre extension, the band is hoping to welcome back former players who would like to say goodbye to the building the group has occupied since it was built in the mid-1980s.

Fakenham Town Band has a long history in Fakenham, being established in 1884 by six men in a pub. Since then, the band has gone from strength to strength, surviving two world wars and one world pandemic.

For 50 years, the band rehearsed in its own building on Church Lanes, which was eventually demolished for housing due to dilapidation. It then moved to a purpose-built facility at Trap Lane, which was designed and built with the group in mind.

Past band members who would like to join the final rehearsal at Trap Lane Pavilion on Thursday at 7.30pm can bring an instrument or just join for the evening (a limited number of instruments may be available).

Anyone wishing to go along should register their attendance at bookings.fakenhamtownband@gmail.com.
