King’s Lynn Operatic Dramatic Society goes ‘Back To The Musicals’ as it prepares to raise the roof off of St Nicholas’ Chapel

Lynn's oldest performance company will raise the roof off of its new venue as it brings a musical to the stage.

With the closure of the Guildhall in Lynn – which had been King’s Lynn Operatic Dramatic Society's (KLODS) main performing theatre – the company is bringing the very best of musical theatre to St Nicholas’ Chapel over a three-day run, which opens on Thursday, April 3.

Back To The Musicals, sponsored by The Lynn News’ sister paper, Your Local Paper, will carry the audience through the highlights of musical theatre over the last 100 years.

From the 1920s to the 2020s, KLODS has found the best singers for the best songs.

Staged and narrated in the stunning surroundings of the Grade I-listed building, this concert promises to be an “unforgettable experience, blending breathtaking performances with the beautiful acoustics of this historic venue”.

From heartfelt ballads to exhilarating showstoppers, it will be a night to remember and will leave people feeling nostalgic for the age of musicals, past and present.

Under the flight of angels, the audience will hear diverse and uplifting songs from The Greatest Showman, Les Misérables, Operation Mincemeat, Dear Evan Hansen, joined by classic hits from Funny Girl, Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera and many more.

The job of getting together some of West Norfolk’s top musical theatre performers was down to KLODS musical director Alex Kendal, who explained that condensing 100 years of the very best musicals into just a two-hour concert has proved incredibly difficult.

But he hopes that the selected highlights, sung in beautiful arrangements in solo, duet, trio and full choral harmony, provide a night to remember.

He said: “This is a brand new venture for KLODS and I cannot wait for it to be enjoyed by audiences with the amazing acoustics of this noted concert venue.

“This will be a show to delight those of all ages, from seasoned musical lovers to those newer to the wonderful world of showtunes.”

The family-suitable show opens on Thursday, April 3 and runs to Saturday, April 5 with 7.30pm shows each day and a 2.30 matinee on Saturday.
